While catching white bass, we had a few very large crappie hit our balsa shads while trolling. Many of the crappie are in transition from their spring shallows. On Lake Lure they will follow the bait schools to capitalize on leftovers when the white bass bust up the bait and scatter the bait from their schools. You'd be surprised how open-water oriented many of them can be. Here is a hefty specimen that Jack caught last night.
