It was a night to remember as I had perhaps the greatest night of bass fishing in my lifetime tonight..... and I wish everyone could have been there fishing with me. In a spot that has had much recent success for good largemouth bass, I started with a jelly worm to catch a 7 1/2 pound 23 inch largemouth bass within the first five minutes.
Then, the topwater bonanza began. The water started exploding on a nearby point. I trolling motored over there and started throwing a topwater plug as soon as I was in range. On the first cast, an explosion sent my lure 3 feet in the air. It landed, I twitched it once, and another boil sent my baitcasting rod into a right angle. I caught 2 pound largemouths on 4 of the next 6 casts. They kept hitting the topwater for another 30 minutes as I caught 5 more. From there, I decided to quit early so I could get a good picture of the 7 pounder. After some folks took a few photos, I gently moved her back and forth through the water while she actually licked my hand. Finally, she got tired and gave a good jolt. I let go, and off she swam.
Here is a photo of one of my topwater bass.
