After a ridiculously cold February with the worst weather that I can remember ever having for the month, my buddy and I could wait no longer. Despite shorelines and back coves frozen over on many of our lakes last week and not much of a warm up since then, we ventured out in the rain anyway today. We had to fish slow and steady for just a few bites, but we managed a few bass including this 14 fish. I took his snowsuit off before the photo, but even this fish was shivering. We expect things to pick up a lot in the next few weeks.
The target will be crappie is they make their way in for their yearly spawn. We tried for a few crappie today, but only bass were brave enough to start their spawns. The males had red upper lips from digging out spawning beds.
